IELTS (English Language Testing System) Certificate..

In order to take part in on Overseas Nurses Programme you will first need to obtain an IELTS certificate in the country where you are residing.

IELTS assesses the language ability of candidates hoping to work in the UK. Your level of English will be tested in various areas (including speaking, listening, reading and writing) and you will have to attain a specific mark in order to obtain a certificate. For additional information regarding the IELTS please visit the following website: http://www.ielts.org

What do I need to do in order to qualify for entry on to an Overseas Nurse Program?

You must provide the following documents:

  • the original NMC assessment letter (you will receive this after your initial registration with the NMC, providing that your training as a nurse is equivalent to the UK)
  • the original IELTS certificate
  • the appropriate Immigration visa

The registration for overseas candidates can often be a  time-consuming process. In order to avoid any delays or lost documents, we strongly advise you to send all documents either by registered post or private courier, therefore allowing for documents to be efficiently traced in case of loss. We also advise that copies are kept of all documents as a safeguard. If you already have a NMC pin number, please inform us of this as we can then start looking for your new employment.

If you are an overseas candidate applying to work in the UK, please verify whether you are eligible to receive a work permit. Applications for a work permit will be completed by your employer, once you have received an offer of employment.

During the past year the conditions of entry to the UK have undergone a significant overhaul and some nationalities are no longer eligible to receive a work permit. For further information please click on the following link: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/

As a non EU / EEA candidate, you will also need to obtain a Visa, please check the requirements for this.

Before being entitled to entry to the UK, all overseas candidates will need to obtain a Visa from the British High Commission where the applicant is residing.
